In March we had a new fence installed around the edge of the field where a new diverted footpath has been routed. This diversion officially came into place in 2024 after Meare Parish Council worked with Somerset Council’s Rights of Way Officers to divert the footpath around the edge of the field and was initiated in November 2022 as a result of a request from young parishioners who wanted a dog mess free facility to use for recreational sports. A Parish Survey followed in 2023 with many parishioners commenting that the field was unusable due to the amount of dog mess that was not cleaned up.
The fenced off footpath is nice and wide and dog walkers must use this footpath for exercising their dogs to keep the Playing Field clear of dogs and dog waste so that it is safe for recreation, the purpose for which it was purchased in 1996 by Meare Parish Council.
